MBS Impact Modifier

MBS impact modifier is a copolymer of methyl methacrylate, butadiene and styrene. The solubility parameter of MBS is 94-9.5, which is close to that of PVC. Therefore, MBS has good compatibility with PVC. Its biggest feature is that transparent products can be made by adding PVC. Generally, adding 10-17 phr of PVC can increase the impact strength of PVC by 6-15 times, but when MBS is more than 30 phr, the impact strength of PVC will decrease. MBS itself has good impact performance, good transparency, light transmittance up to more than 90%, and at the same time, it has little impact on other properties of the resin, such as tensile strength, elongation at break and so on. MBS has a high price and is often used in combination with other impact modifiers, such as EAV, CPE, SBS, etc. MBS has poor heat resistance and weather resistance, so it is not suitable for outdoor long-term use products. Generally, MBS is not used as impact modifier in the production of plastic door and window profiles. MBS resin is a kind of core-shell copolymer which is grafted by MMA and dried by salting out. Chlorinated polyethylene (CPE) is a kind of powder product which uses HDPE to suspend and chlorinate in water phase. With the increase of chlorination degree, the original crystalline HDPE gradually becomes an amorphous elastomer. The content of CL in CPE used as toughening agent is generally 25-45%. CPE has a wide source and low price. Besides toughening effect, it also has cold resistance, weather resistance, fire resistance and chemical resistance.
