About MBS Impact Modifier
MBS Impact Modifier: MBS is a copolymer of methyl methacrylate (MMA), butadiene, and styrene. Its solubility parameter (9.4-9.5) is close to PVC, giving it excellent compatibility. MBS is widely used in transparent PVC products due to its ability to improve impact strength and maintain high light transmittance (>90%).
Performance Characteristics:
- Adding 10-17 phr of MBS increases PVC impact strength 6-15 times; exceeding 30 phr decreases impact strength.
- Maintains transparency and light transmittance.
- Minimal effect on tensile strength, elongation at break, or other PVC properties.
- Poor heat and weather resistance, not suitable for outdoor long-term use.
- Core-shell graft copolymer structure promotes PVC particle dispersion and gelation, improving processability and reducing extrusion residence time.
- Often used in combination with other modifiers such as EVA, CPE, SBS.
